The Goal

An Unparalleled Student Experience

In its unwavering commitment to its student body and faculty, Oregon State embarked on a 2-year project to construct a new Student Experience Center. OSU hired ZTransform to engineer and deploy the solutions for an entire floor dedicated to convergent media – including TV, radio, and print. This expansive environment would allow users to be immersed in real world activities on real world technologies, for an enhanced on-campus experience.
The Challenge

A Collaborative Media Center

Oregon State University were looking for a modern, multifaceted media center that would serve as a collaborative environment where students and faculty could meet and get hands-on experience producing content for television, FM radio, the Web, social media, newspaper and magazines.

Keeping pace with a dynamic media industry meant ZTransform needed to plan this system for its immediate need as well as what it would need to evolve into over the next decade. Agile, IP-based, collaborative platforms would be the key to longevity.

The Solution

An Effort as Dynamic as its Users

Contracted through Opsis Architecture, ZTransform provided technical services for the media center starting with space planning, budgeting, and scheduling. Once the schematic design was complete. ZTransform moved into a tactical mode, providing facility specifications, detailed design, build-to documentation, platform configuration, systems commissioning and training services.
The Result

Launching a New Media Network

This facility became the home to the Orange Media Network (OMN), a national award-winning student media program at Oregon State University. It is the home to six student-run mediums: a newspaper, three magazines, a radio station and a TV station. Students and staff in the operation develop content that informs, entertains and engages the OSU community.
