The Evergreen State College

Evergreen is a public liberal arts and sciences college in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. Opened in 1971, Evergreen gives students a hands-on, collaborative education that prepares them to succeed in an ever-changing world.

The Goal

Center for Creative and Applied Media

The $2.5 million Center for Creative and Applied Media (CCAM) project was envisioned to be the media hub of The Evergreen State College campus.

As the media hub, the Center was to be a resource for students and staff for video conferencing, digitizing video archives, converting media, and content distribution via the campus cable television and computer networks.

The Challenge

Teching-up

The new facility required the design and construction of two studios and associated production control rooms, master control, edit suites, an audio lab and recording studios, providing students in the Media Studies program access to technologies and methods consistent with those in use in the real world.

Keeping pace with a dynamic media industry meant ZTransform needed to plan this system for its immediate need as well as what it would need to evolve into in the coming years.

The Solution

Architecture for the Arts

ZTransform worked with architecture firm, Studio Meng Strazzara and the end-user, providing Consulting, Design and Project Management for the CCAM project. Applications engineering was performed in cooperation with various technology manufacturers to ensure the breadth of requirements were known and addressed. Full integration services were provided with a keen eye to the future and ease of system upgrades.

The Result

A Dynamic Space for a Bright Future

The Center for Creative & Applied Media provides advanced media access and education in a highly-current and technologically fluid environment. The CCAM houses Media Engineering, Evergreen’s high-definition television studio, Audio Lab, Sound Effects Studio, 5.1 Surround Mixing Room, and more.

It provides improved opportunities for students in media studies programs, with hands-on training and professional-grade equipment. It includes the same technology as professional studios, but with access available to students at all levels. Productions can be recorded to all types of media, posted to YouTube, or streamed live on Evergreen’s website.
