As UCLA transitioned into the Big Ten Conference, the university invested in their new Mobile-2 video production trailer to support expanded live coverage of campus athletics, supporting UCLA’s media strategy, to enable flexible, high-quality production across multiple sports venues. This investment also helped the economics of production by allowing for in-house production of more events without the contracting of a third party mobile production company.

The Goal

Mobile Broadcast for Conference-Grade Coverage

UCLA needed a production trailer that could support live, multi-camera coverage of athletic events with full integration into Big Ten Network workflows.

The goal was to build a compact, high-performance unit with professional-grade routing, switching, graphics, replay, and intercom systems—ready for immediate deployment. For major events, this trailer can be paired with their new Mobile-1 trailer to enhance production capacity.

The Challenge

Compressed Timeline and Multi-Vendor Coordination

With a tight deadline and multiple stakeholders involved, ZTransform had to produce the build-to design documentation, coordination of new and legacy Owner-furnished equipment, and the installation and functional testing of the completed mobile unit in under a month.

The challenge was to deliver a fully functional, stand alone mobile production unit that met HD broadcast standards and integrated seamlessly with campus infrastructure.

The Solution

Powerful and Practical

Completed in under a month, the unit was designed by Big Ten Network engineers, managed by Anthony James Partners, and fully integrated by ZTransform—delivering a broadcast-grade mobile facility ready for live deployment.

Working from a conceptual design provided by BTN engineers, ZTransform translated the vision into detailed construction documentation, executed the full systems installation, and completed testing and commissioning—all within an accelerated timeline.

Beyond technical integration, ZTransform ensured ergonomic layout, intuitive operator interfaces, and scalable connectivity—making the unit not only powerful but practical for student crews, campus media teams, and visiting broadcast partners.

The Result

Premium Quality Sports Coverage

This mobile facility empowered UCLA to expand its media footprint, elevate production quality, and meet the demands of Big Ten-level programming from day one.

The trailer was outfitted with a tightly integrated suite of routing, switching, graphics, replay, audio, and intercom systems, allowing for seamless multi-camera coverage, real-time content creation, and live event control.

The system supports both traditional broadcast workflows and hybrid streaming models, enabling UCLA to produce high-quality coverage for soccer, volleyball, and other sports with minimal setup time and maximum flexibility.
